If you are anything like me, you are currently watching the Winter Olympics like your life depends on it. I have lobbied my boss to switch to observing PyeongChang’s time zone until the Olympics are over, but for some reason she won’t agree. I figured while we were all super busy being the most patriotic we can be, I would fill you in on some of the things I am currently loving.
Watching I
The Olympics. Duh. Who doesn’t love the story of Red Gerard? The boy perfectly embodied the stereotype of the teenage snowboarder and managed to win the gold. Let us not forget the beauty of Matt Hamilton’s mustache. The Winter Olympics are a bit harder to enjoy, because the U.S. isn’t as dominating as we are in the Summer Olympics. However, I really love the stories of the people that manage to reach that level of athleticism.
Watching II
I watched Breakout Kings the other week. I had never heard of it before but HOLY CRAP! It is so good. The U.S. Marshal service creates a special task force to apprehend criminals that escape from prison. The task force is comprised of current convicts, who were particularly hard to apprehend. It is from the creators of Prison Break. The dynamic between the cast members is fascinating. There is also a bit of a mystery behind each of the convicts. I really recommend it but feel like I need to put a disclaimer that the series ends on a cliff hanger. I hate when that happens, and wish I had known before becoming emotionally invested.
Eating
Guys, I am obsessed with sweet potatoes these days. Let me tell you all a story. Growing up, we only had sweet potatoes at Thanksgiving. The only people that ate them were my great-grandmother and my grandma. In college, I tried sweet potato waffle fries a couple of times and thought they were straight up disgusting. Then, HelloFresh offered Southwestern Sweet Potato Hash as a meal option. My life completely changed. I love sweet potatoes. I make them with lots of spices so that there is a sweet and spicy aspect.
Reading I
I just started Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. It is book one in the Illuminae Files. The thrid and final book in the series, Obsidio, comes out March 13, 2018. There was a lot of hype around this series when it first came out. The story is told in a really unique way. The book is told through case files, reports, chats, and diary entries. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to get into this style of story telling. I am actually really enjoying it.
Loving
I got a sample of Dr. Jart Dis-A-Pore BB Cream EONS ago from Sephora. I know it was eons, because I haven’t shopped at a Sephora in two years (terrible customer service experience). It went into my bag when I went away for a conference a couple months ago and was floored by how perfect it was. I use it every morning. It evens out my skin, provides sun protection, and fills in those pesky pores. After, I swipe on some Bare Minerals Pro powder, and my face is ready.
Drinking
I have been such tea drinker recently. I have been trying to force myself to become more of a morning person, I have been failing miserable. However, I am at least managing to get myself to make tea in the morning. Darjeeling is without a doubt my absolute favorite tea in the morning. I have also been trying to remember to drink Sleepytime tea in the evenings before bed. I try to drink a cup of tea while I read a couple of chapters of a book and do a little studying.
Planning
I am so excited to be planning a trip to Asheville with my best friend. I anticipate it will involve a lot of coffeeshops, breweries, and food. It is just the trip and escape that the two of us need. Long distance friendship is not always the easiest to maintain. We have found that it is very important for us to schedule trips with one another. Making it a point to make new memories is something that keeps our friendship strong. We both lead very different lives: she is married and I’m (hopelessly) single, she loves all things health and fitness whereas I’d rather eat and read. Although our lives have changed so much over the years, we both actively stay interested in the others interests. I am constantly trying to get aboard her healthy train and she is asking for recommendations for books to read. I will actually remember to take pictures this time, I promise. If you have any recommendations please leave them in the comments.
There you have it. Everything that I am currently watching, reading and loving. I hope this little insight provided a little inspiration. If you have an recommendations for me be sure to leave them in the comments. I always love trying new things!
