Happy April everyone! Although I am not posting this until April, here are some of my favorite (and one not so favorite) things I did in March. March was Women’s History Month, unintentionally, this post is very girl-powered. Other than my drink of choice (an ode to yesteryear) and my new favorite food (because I’m a child) my favorites this year are things created by, starring, or designed for women.
Watching I
I went to see A Wrinkle in Time the other day. I wanted to love it so much. A Wrinkle in Time is one of my absolute favorite books of all time. Despite the terrible reviews I kept seeing, I wanted to keep an open mind and see it for myself. Welp, I should have listened to the reviews. I truly felt that every actor and actresses performance was amazing, the special effects were over the top, and somewhere along the way they lost the beautiful story that Madeleine L’Engle told. A story about how science and spirituality (any kind of religion) can live in harmony. They are not mutually exclusive ideas. I understand that every person has a different interpretation of this classic book. I cannot fault the director or the author of the screenplay for having a different interpretation than I did. However, for me it felt like the things this book stood for in my mind were reduced to afterthoughts or left out all together.
Drinking
Yuengling has hit Kentucky, and I could not be happier. I know it sounds a bit ridiculous, but Yuengling reminds me a bit of home. In college, the local bars had “Yuengs and Wings”: dollar Yuengling drafts and cheap wings. Yuengling reminds me of an easier, happier time in my life.
Watching II
Great news, the long awaited second season of Jessica Jones is finally out. Our snarky not so super hero is back. I love Krysten Ritter. She plays the most perfect antihero in this series about a women with unbelievable strength and a bit of a drinking problem. The first season came out in 2015, but Jessica was also in the Defenders. The newest season delves into Jessica’s past and how she became “powered.” I had to only allow myself to watch a couple of episodes a night or else I would wouldn’t have slept until it was over.
Reading I
Call me a bad millenial feminist, but I had never read #Girlboss. I finally bought it the other day because I didn’t want to be a bad millenial feminist. No, but seriously, I’ve been in a bit of a girl power mood recently. I could chalk it up to the Women’s History Month. However, when life starts to get hectic and requires me to be super structured, I think a lot about all the women out there doing the damn thing and busting their asses to make it. It helps remind me that I can do it too. If you have read #Girlboss and are looking for more from Sophia Amoruso, you can now subscribe to her newsletter or read her blog.
Eating
I have an unhealthy obsession with squeezable apple sauce. I get that it is for kids, but it is so freaking convenient. My job is kind of hectic so I tend to be in a car and on the run a lot. All I have to do is throw it in my bag and I can just slurp it down on the go. I am pretty partial to the Materne Go-Go Squeez Apple Cinnamon. I went cheap the otherday and bought the WalMart brand. Normally, I don’t think there is any difference between name brand and generic. Unfortunately, the generic version is a bit runnier than the name brand. From now on, I will be spending the extra money for Go-Go Squeez.

Are you subscribed to the Girls Night In Club Newsletter yet? Do it right now! Click this link. Right here. Right now. Did you do it yet? I’m serious this newsletter may have changed my life. First of all, I feel so much better about staying in. I am an extrovert, which means that I get energized by being around people. However, the older I get the more of a homebody I become. While I enjoy a night out with friends, I also love staying at home with my dog, cooking, reading, and relaxing (a.k.a. not wearing pants or a bra). This newsletter gives you tips and ideas for making the most of that night in. It also makes me feel a lot better about staying in.
Listening
I have finally started listening to Jenna Kutcher’s GoalDigger podcast. It took me way too long to start listening, but I was never really a podcast girl. However I freaking adore Jenna Kutcher so I took the dive into podcast life, and I am totally obsessed. I love the insights that she gives in her podcast. Moreover, I think there will be way more podcast listening in my future.
Doing
Can we talk about how much I freaking love Friday Night Chores?! I feel very confident that my twenty one year old self would absolutely hate me for this. However my twenty eight year old self is rejoicing in a weekend with a clean and comfy house. I learned all about it through the above mentioned Girls Night In Club Newsletter. The basic concept is this: your Friday is already shot because you had to work most of the day. Instead of going out, why not do all the chores you need to do so that you can spend the weekend basking in the glory that is a clean home. Now, I spend Friday night doing dishes, cleaning my floors, washing and folding laundry, changing my sheets, and picking up the clutter. This has been absolutely fabulous.
