Happy Spring!

Happy spring, everyone! So I took some time to sit down and think about the things I wanted to do this year to make my spring a happy time.

There is a state park near me with hiking trails, I’m planning to start taking Rem there on weekends so that we can get outside and get a workout. I know he misses being able to run around the forest to explore like he used to do at my parents’ house.

I can already cross Spring Cleaning the house off of my checklist. I have family coming into town this weekend so I went crazy and got all the cleaning done last weekend, including a deep clean of my refrigerator…YUCK.

I love using seasonal veggies in recipes and, luckily, I really like Asparagus so this Spring Asparagus Tart may be the perfect seasonal dish. It isn’t too hard with pre-prepared pastry dough, mascarpone cheese, and asparagus. Or I may try this Roasted Shrimp and Orzo recipe because Mom is bringing some shrimp from my cousin’s fish market and I’ve always wanted to try to make Orzo.

I already visited the local florist and have started to keep fresh flowers in the house. I wish I could grow my own, but honestly, I kill all plants. I had bamboo for about 2 years, and then it died. Bamboo is supposed to be impossible to kill. I have a nice little bouquet of tulips on my coffee table right now and they have luckily bloomed very nicely. Peony season is right around the corner and I cannot wait to fill my house with them.

I can’t wait for my weekend trip to Columbus with some of my closest friends. Columbus is a good meeting point for the three of us, and, oddly, it is a city we have never explored before. Check back at the end of the month for that post.

I don’t know about you, but I am not a morning person. I have the hardest time getting up in the morning and, typically, wake up about 15 minutes before I need to be out the door. It has got to stop. I am dedicating this spring to finally creating a morning routine and sticking to it. I’ll be sure to update you all on my progress.

Farmer’s Markets are everywhere in the spring and summer. It is the perfect place to pick up local produce and locally made products.

I keep saying I’m going to take a digital detox, but I always cave in a few hours and start scrolling through Instagram. Maybe this time it will work.

I love brunch, who doesn’t? Throwing Boozy Brunches in the spring is so fun because it’s warm enough to sit on your front porch, but not so hot that you could cook that quiche while it sits beside you. I live in Kentucky so I am contemplating throwing a Derby Brunch next month. If that doesn’t happen I’ll just invite some friends over for mimosas and french toast, while we watch Brunch with Bobby.

Finally, spring is a great time to put a dent in that “To Be Read” pile. We all have one, some of ours are a bit (a lot) bigger than others. Grab a book, a blanket, and some wine and go sit in your backyard or the local park and read in the sun. There is nothing more relaxing. Here are the books I will be reading this month. If those don’t strike your fancy, check out The Atlantic’s Best Books of 2016 or Amazon Editor’s Best Books in April.
