A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to take a quick weekend vacation in DC with my two best friends. I hadn’t seen either of them since May, when my parents threw me a rather lovely law school graduation party. The whole point of the weekend was that I had spent most of my summer studying and needed to salvage my last summer before I was officially an “adult.” I was about to turn 25 and was still having a wee bit of a quarter life crisis (earlier in the summer I cut off around 12 inches of hair hoping that would end the crisis… it didn’t). So this weekend was all about having a bit of fun, but more importantly it was about food, good food. I spent the summer eating any bad food that could be delivered to my door. I am ashamed of the things that I ate and have since vowed to get a lot healthier (a completely different story). That 4 day trip was exactly what I needed to remind myself that I was still young and it was ok not to have everything (or anything) figured out.
The Library of Congress is without a doubt my favorite thing in Washington, D.C. I am a bit of a bibliophile, so the Library checks off all of my favorite things: beautiful building, breathtaking views, one of the largest collections of books, and a great story behind it.
Thomas Jefferson offered his entire collection to the library after the British burnt the existing library in 1815. It was organized based on Francis Bacon’s organization of knowledge: Memory, Reason, and Imagination. Unfortunately even Jefferson’s replacement collection was later burned in 1851, but the library has worked hard to replace most of the books lost in that fire, particularly those Jefferson had donated.
Alright, I suppose that is enough of a history lesson. On to the food! I’m a big fan of brunch, who isn’t? When I go to DC the most important thing is to get myself to a couple of good brunch spots! This time around we tried Madhatter for brunch. Madhatter has a bottomless mimosa brunch and I honestly could not have had a better experience. My friends and I sat on the patio soaking up the sun and bubbles.

We also ate at Darlington House, a gorgeous Italian Bistro in Dupont Circle. Then dessert stopped by Dolcezza Artisanal Gelato for dessert. I was also so excited when I dropped into for a quick drink with my friends at Murphy’s of DC, an Irish Pub near the Zoo. They had Kilkenny Irish Cream Ale a beer I discovered in Irish Pubs in Italy. For a moment, I felt like I was back in Italy. Unfortunately, there are no pictures available as my phone was dead and I forgot my camera.
