This week was a very long one for me and countless other people around the country. I work for a non-partisan organization. As such, I don’t share my political views publicly. I will say that I will continue to choose to love, support and protect those around me. I will choose those that are honorable and see a future that supports and protects its citizens. I will fight for a world where politicians work together to improve the lives of their constituents instead of name calling and attacking others. I will fight for this democracy to better represent the people within it. If you read that and have a problem with those views, I want you to really think about what that says.
Reading
I only completed one book this week, Bob Doto’s A System for Writing. However I have made headway on Brimstone. I also borrowed Nevermoor from the library the other night. After this week, I needed something easy and full of whimsy. I also started to dig into Ali Abdaal’s Feel Good Productivity. I am really interested in this book. I’ve watched some of Abdaal’s youtube videos, sometimes they are a bit too bro-productivity for me. However, I recently started following Kaelynn Grace Apple, who has taken over as product manager for his Productivity Lab. Her story really resonated with me so I decided to actually dig into his book. He may not be my perfect cup of tea, but his concepts are.
Researching
If it wasn’t obvious, this week I’ve been really digging into productivity. How do I continue to work full time, but also spend some time doing research and writing on my own? How do I work and also fuel myself for the long drive to fight for a better country that supports its people in the way they deserve? Well I’m thinking productivity may be where it’s at. I don’t want to “hack” my productivity. I want to make it more sustainable in the long term. This means habits and rituals that support a multimodal and multifunctional lifestyle.
Cooking
I’m not really sure if I cooked a single thing this week. This week has been a lot of easy quick heat meals from Trader Joes. I have, however, resurrected my sourdough starter, Steve, for bread Monday. Truly, I cannot wait.
Buying
Ok I haven’t bought anything yet but you had better believe that I’m thinking of getting Athena’s winged sword on my forearm and I’m considering buying two new tarot decks. I think I may lean into my divine feminine witchy energy because why not? I am all about supporting small businesses and female entrepreneurs. So send your recommendations my way!
Watching
We watched Silo on AppleTV+. I couldn’t stop it. We started Friday night and finished on Saturday afternoon. I am so excited for season 2 this week. We also watched Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy which was absolutely phenomenal. I am a huge fan of anything based on John Le Carre and every movie Gary Oldman is in. If you didn’t know, Oldman’s character, Smiley, was created as a direct counter to James Bond. Le Carre is a nome de plume for a real life spy–David John Moore Cornwell. He felt that James Bond was not an accurate depiction of British spies and wanted to create a true English spy in George Smiley.
