Synopsis:
Lucas Thatcher has always been my enemy.
It’s been a decade since I’ve seen him, but our years on opposite coasts were less of a lasting peace and more of a temporary cease-fire. Now that we’re both back in our small town, I know Lucas expects the same old war, but I’ve changed since high school—and from the looks of it, so has he.
The arrogant boy who was my teenage rival is now a chiseled doctor armed with intimidating good looks. He is Lucas Thatcher 2.0, the new and improved version I’ll be competing with in the workplace instead of the schoolyard.
I’m not worried; I’m a doctor now too, board-certified and sexy in a white coat. It almost feels like winning will be too easy—until Lucas unveils a tactic neither of us has ever used before: sexual warfare.
The day he pushes me up against the wall and presses his lips to mine, I can’t help but wonder if he’s filling me with passion or poison. Every fleeting touch is perfect torture. With every stolen kiss, my walls crumble a little more. After all this time, Lucas knows exactly how to strip me of my defenses, but I’m in no hurry to surrender.
Knowing thy enemy has never felt so good.
My Review
Honestly, I would have paid whatever to get my hands on it. I am a sucker for hate and competition turned into passionate love. Man, oh man, does this one deliver. Anything You Can Do is like the perfect Pinot Grigio, sweet, sexy, makes you laugh for hours, and you just can’t put it down.
Daisy has just returned to her small town to take over a family medical practice, but much to her dismay so has her arch nemesis, Lucas Thatcher. And that’s where the story begins, Daisy comes in contact with a man she has successfully avoided for 11 years. Someone who drives her insane. Someone who loves to push her buttons. Little does she know, Lucas has no interest in competition. Daisy is Lucas’s only interest.
To be perfectly honest, if Lucas showed up on my doorstep tomorrow, he wouldn’t be allowed to leave my house for a few days. I am absolutely obsessed with the characters that R.S. Grey has created! They are funny, have the perfect pop culture references and their bantering skills are top-notch.
Daisy is sweet and naive. She has spent so much one focusing on her next step in her education and career that she couldn’t see what was in front of her the whole time. Lucas to the contrary is patient and understanding. He lets Daisy take her time figuring out that he is what she wants. While she is figuring it out, he is more than happy to indulge her in some sexy time. The scene in the exam room when they were being quarantined? So unbelievably hot.
On top of the fantastic main characters (who I could spend all day raving about), the supporting cast was pretty interesting as well. Daisy’s mom is that quintessential slightly kooky mom, from experience I know that kooky moms are both endearing and frustrating. I am hoping that R.S. Grey writes about Madeleine’s search for love. Madeleine is both Lucas’s little sister and Daisy’s best friend, which sounds like it was a precarious place to be in growing up. I think my only wish for this book was that I would have gotten to see Madeleine a little more because every time she did appear I was laughing out loud.
The icing on top of this perfect little story, though, was Lucas’s emails. I think my heart broke a little bit every time I read one. The vulnerability that he showed each time he wrote one of those letters destroyed my poor little heart. Dear R.S. Grey publish the first 348 emails. I’m a masochist and want to fall even more in love with a fictional character!
